Earth Hour™ in the Cook Islands

On Saturday 31 March 2012 at 8:30pm, Pacific Resort Hotel Group will join hundreds of millions of people across the globe in switching off the lights of our business premises and our homes for one hour – Earth Hour, the world's largest public action for the environment. By taking part in this global 'lights out' event we will be acknowledging our commitment to personal and operational actions that benefit the planet in the year ahead.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour began as a single-city initiative – in Sydney, Australia – in 2007 and has since grown into a global movement with hundreds of millions of people from more than 5,000 cities and towns in 135 countries across every continent switching off their lights for Earth Hour 2011, creating history as the world's greatest ever environmental action.

Some of the world's most famous man-made marvels and natural wonders, including China's Forbidden City, Eiffel Tower, Table Mountain, Great Pyramids of Egypt, Buckingham Palace, Brazil's Christ the Redeemer statue, Niagara and Victoria Falls, Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House and many more global icons stood in darkness as a powerful symbol of landmark environmental action.

Participating in Earth Hour is easy, fun and absolutely free. To get more information visit www.earthhour.org, where you can sign up to switch off, share your action and celebrate with the people of the world your commitment to the one thing we all have in common – the planet.

How is Pacific Resort Hotel Group supporting Earth Hour?

Pacific Resort Hotel Group has accepted the challenge and our teams in Aitutaki and Rarotonga have signed on as Country contacts and are both actively working to join the independent organisers and supportive institutions to ensure that Earth Hour 2012 goes beyond the hour and continues to grow every year.

Pacific Resort Aitutaki, Pacific Resort Rarotonga & Te Manava Luxury Villas & Spa has committed to lights out on the 31st March and will also be encouraging its guests to participate. In Pacific Resort Aitutaki dinner will be served early on that evening and will come to a close as Earth Hour 2012 begins. As the lights go out, the Fire Dancers will arrive and after the show guests will be able to enjoy their drinks by candlelight and marvel at the beauty of an unadulterated Pacific sky.

In the lead up to Earth Hour 2012, we at Pacific Resort Hotel Group plan to take a close look at ways our company can operate more efficiently, waste less and reduce our ecological footprint – not only in our own operations, but throughout our supply chain – and we will share our operational changes with the world on www.earthhour.org as our commitment to go beyond the hour for Earth Hour 2012.
